Body Sugaring Proves A Sweet Deal

Before IPL, before waxing and before the Brazilian, there was another hair removal trend in town, and now, hundreds of thousands of years later, it’s making a comeback in salons, writes Nadia Stennett.

It’s been said that no hair removal trend has stood the test of time quite like the Brazilian, a waxing treatment so often requested it’s actually warranted its own line of specialised salons. But a lesser known hair removal treatment, with a history that outdates the invention of the salon itself, is seeing beauty businesses cash in on booming client demand.

A technique that dates back as far as 1900BC, body sugaring is a hair removal treatment that involves slathering a sticky honey-like paste of sugar substrate onto clients’ skin in the same direction as hair growth and quickly removing the sugar paste, along with the hair. The result, and ultimate pull-factor (pun intended) of this method, is smooth skin that’s free of irritation or inflammation, thanks to the hypoallergenic nature of the sugar solution and its ability to remove large patches of hair without the need for heating above room temperature.

With an increasing number of clients with skin sensitivities frequenting salons, Body Sugaring Australia founder, Kathryn Patterson, says the market is ripe to take the body sugaring brand, Body Sugaring Australia to an international audience at this year’s Cosmoprof in Hong Kong.

“We have committed to a number of individual salons that attended Sydney Expo to run our first training course over there and felt it was a great way to tie the two activities together and build our brand awareness in one of the strongest export markets for Australian Brands,” explains Body Sugaring Australia founder, Kathryn Patterson.

“We believe body sugaring is the way forward for hair removal and permanent hair reduction.”
